Whether you prefer big bands and dancing beside the bay or a more traditional memorial service at the Governor's Palace in Williamsburg, you can celebrate freedom and honor the memories of fallen soldiers in so many ways this upcoming, long weekend.

Memorial Day Celebration at Victory Arch
On Memorial Day, head to the Victory Arch in Downtown Newport News at 11 am to honor those have lost their lives in service to our country. After a ceremony to honor the fallen, the public is invited learn about America’s rich military heritage at the Virginia War Museum.
Big Bands on the Bay
Celebrate freedom with live, musical performances and dancing at Ocean View Beach Park on Sunday, May 29th. Big Bands on the Bay runs every Sunday evening through Labor Day. Set against the backdrop of the sunset and the water, you're sure to have an experience you won't forget.
Memorial Day Commemorative Program
Gather at the Palace Green in Colonial Williamsburg this Memorial Day from 10 am to 12 pm for a modern day service honoring military veterans who died while serving their country. A procession led by Fife and Drum will end at Bruton Parish Church and the French gravesite where wreaths will be laid and prayers spoken for the fallen.
Kam Cares Family and Friends Memorial Day Cookout at Town Point Park
This free event is open to the public and kicks off at noon on Saturday, May 28th at Town Point Park in Downtown Norfolk. Bring friends and family to this all day, outdoor cookout on the water and support Kam Cares Foundation, a nonprofit organization started by Kam Chancellor of the Seattle Seahawks. Newport News Park 50th Anniversary Celebration
Kick off Memorial Day weekend by celebrating Newport News Park's 50th Anniversary on Friday, May 27 at 11:00 am in the park at picnic shelters 19 & 20. If you've never visited Newport News Park, now is a great time, as you can watch city officials award the park with commemorative plaques that will be placed throughout the park, along with a time capsule.
USAF Heritage of America Concert Band Memorial Day Concert
Memorial Day, May 30th at 7 pm, head to City Center at Oyster Point for great food and a live performance from the US Air Force Concert Band, comprised of over 40 professional airman-musicians performing a variety of orchestral classics, Broadway hits, jazz standards and more.
