Every new season brings a host of activities, events, festivals and things to do in our region, but we have to admit that we’re particularly fond of celebrating St. Patrick’s Day. You don’t have to be Irish to enjoy the good luck, green drinks and fun activities that make up some of our favorite, local St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.
If you’ve been huddled up indoors this winter and are ready to get out and search out fun things to do around town, begin with St. Patrick’s Day and a few of our favorite ways to celebrate. Whether you prefer taking the family out for a traditional parade, dancing in the streets with neighbors and friends or gathering with friends at a local pub for a block party to end all block parties, there’s a way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day just the way you like it!

51st Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade
This famous Norfolk tradition will celebrate its 51st year, stepping off at 10 am in Ocean View. After the parade, stay and celebrate with all day after parties, games, refreshments and live entertainment, and plan to visit some of Norfolk’s finest watering holes and pubs. This event is family-friendly until the after party kicks in, and then it becomes adult-friendly only.
Shamrockin’ in Ghent
Shamrockin’ in Ghent is Hope House’s annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration and block party, stepping off on Colley Avenue in Norfolk, VA and featuring some of the area’s best live music and entertainment. Plan to bring every member of your family to enjoy delicious food, adult beverages, marching bagpipe performances and more!
St. Patrick’s Day at Stillwater Tavern
Savor traditional Irish pub food like corned beef and cabbage, as well as adult beverage drink specials and Irish music. This event is not family friendly, but will include games, trivia and other fun adult activities that will help keep you in the spirit and test your luck o’ the Irish!
St. Patrick’s Day at PBR Hampton Roads
This adult-friendly celebration takes place at one of the Peninsula’s favorite watering holes, and features green beer, a leprechaun race, specials and surprises and more, all night long! Expect live music from your favorite local bands, and an inexpensive door charge of just $5 to get in. Grab a few friends and neighbors, don your finest green gear and head out for a night of fun!
St. Precarious Day Block Party at Amber Ox Public House
Brought to you by Amber Ox Public House and Precarious Beer Project, this exciting and fun block party is a party you won’t want to miss! Expect craft beer, flowing taps, live music, delicious food and a festival filled with good laughs and great fun! Beginning at noon and ending at 6 pm, you’ll have all day to celebrate the good luck of the Irish with your favorite friends and neighbors.
